Another rescue

I was browsing a local thrift store this afternoon, and as is my habit, I looked to see if there were any crocheted, knitted or quilted items for sale. I came across a lovely, white crocheted blanket. I’m not sure of the pattern name, but the piece was absolutely lovely. It’s clear to me that a lot of time and care was put into making it.

The yarn, however, was very scratchy and the piece was somewhat stiff. I knew I could soften it at least a bit, and so into my cart it went.

I hold no judgment toward anyone who donates these items. I just have a soft spot for handmade items that end up in thrift stores.

This lovely throw now adorns a dark brown leather chair. It has perked it up nicely.

Now I’m interested in the pattern and will use the Nano Banana AI tool on Google to find it based on a photo of the finished piece.

We never know what we’ll find when we wander into a thrift store. Some days it’s a treasure trove while other days it’s a bust. Today’s visit netted me a lovely crocheted throw, a wire basket to hold yarn, and a couple picture frames.

As I do with my other “rescues” (3 pictured below) I wonder who made the piece, and why. I also wonder if it ended up at a thrift store after a death in the family, or was simply moved out with a routine housecleaning or downsizing effort after falling into disuse.

Whatever the reason, I am appreciating the stitches in this white, crocheted blanket and sending good thoughts to the fiber artist that made it – wherever they may be tonight.
