I recently acquired a new pattern for a little fabric container, of which I’m going to make a few different versions. I’ve identified this as the prototype for a “gift bag” for the candy and gift cards that I generally give to my employees at the holidays.
This is straightforward (2 squares of fabric), is ideal for “shopping my stash”, and makes the perfect little gift that says “Happy Holidays” as well as communicating that the recipients are special enough to be gifted with something hand made.
If our stash is lacking in holiday fabrics, the local Dollar Tree usually stocks an assortment of fat quarters, which means we have lots of options at a discount price point.
There’s also plenty of time to check out the thrift stores around town for holiday prints on table cloths, tea towels or donated fabric.
For special gifts, our local fabric stores have already begin to stock their holiday prints so we can go thrifty or high end in choosing the fabrics.
My examples include “fat 8ths” from a local quilt shop, a remnant from Joann’s and fabric repurposed from a skirt I made for myself years ago and no longer wear.
For extra fun we can add jingle bells at each point, or a button just above each “peak” (between the points).
For a more substantial gift, we could make 3 coordinating color baskets in small-medium-large sizes, that nest. Let’s not forget the other holidays, with Halloween fabric more fun than ever, and many of us decorating as much for the spooky season as we ever did for Christmas.
The options are truly endless!
