Two great reads

I just finished reading “The Sewing Machine” and found it to be a delightful story on its own, but especially for those of us who sew.

My daughter gave me the book for Mother’s Day this year, and said that she hoped I would like it as much as the last book she got me: “The Knitting Circle” by Ann Hood.

Both are captivating stories, and were hard to put down once I started reading them. Each book has the kind of characters that we feel a sort of kinship with while in the middle of the story, and then a sadness when we have to say goodbye at the end of the book.

The stories feel like real life, with flawed individuals living messy lives. Like our own lives, knitting or sewing were regular parts of the day to day in each storyline.

The Memorial Day weekend is almost here, marking a solemn day of remembrance for the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. It’s also the unofficial start of Summer and the beach/pool reading season.

I can’t think of 2 better books for your wish list. Regardless of your usual genre preference, I promise that a fiber arts book break will be a highlight to your Summer.

Also, while I was gifted these books, both are available in public libraries, in traditional book, eBook and audiobook formats.

It’s always a good idea to give our local libraries some love and attention, and when we can do that PLUS spend some time immersed in a great fiber arts story, it’s a win.

Happy reading!
